You heard me…. If you buy coffee from a coffee shop on a daily basis you could be spending up to $90 on one pound of coffee beans!

Let me explain....

How many cups of coffee do you drink in a month? If you’re anything like me (a moderate caffeine addict) you’ll at least have one cup a day. If you buy your coffee from the coffee shop every day because you’re in a hurry, I sure hope it’s amazing coffee because, that’s a lot of money!

Let’s do the math together, one pound of coffee beans (16 oz. by weight) makes about 270 fluid ounces of coffee, or 22.5 (12 oz.) cups.

Are you willing to pay $45.00 - $90.00 per pound of coffee when you could spend the same amount of time at home brewing your coffee as you would in line at a coffee shop? Something to ponder ...

Some reasons may be, because you love the wifi connections, the fancy lights, the energy of the café and the spot to sit to sip your triple whip, not too hot, with a splash of vanilla cappuccino. I mean what’s not to love about it? You can even get a snack while you’re there.

But if you’re looking for a way to save money, you can buy even the best of the best coffee beans, and an inexpensive brewing method and make it at home! It’s not as hard as you might think, and it’s actually quite satisfying when your coffee tastes even better than your favorite coffee shop.

But I know, you love your espresso drinks with all of the foamy milk and chocolate and syrup. Honestly it’s very easy to make those at home for a fraction of the cost, and you won’t even have to wait in line to be called Kelly instead of Kylee, or Toni instead of Toby.

Espresso machines seem expensive, but not as expensive as your coffee habit my friend. Check it out…

We’ve established that the coffee is cheaper to buy. So, let’s add in the milk you would use to make a 12 ounce beverage. That would be 10 ounces of milk and 2 ounces of espresso. But when you buy an espresso based drink, you could spend up to $1800 per year!

*Numbers are based on milk at $4.00 per gallon, yielding 12.8 (10 oz.) Servings. + Coffee at $20 per lb., yielding 30 double shots (2 oz.) of espresso.

Wow, nowt THAT'S a LOT of savings! But, what about the cost of the expensive espresso machine? Ok, let’s look.....

As you can see, making espresso drinks at home is very cost effective! And you can even get the best coffee in the world and still save a ton of money. If you're looking for a good machine, check out Saeco and La Pavoni for inexpensive beginner machines and Breville for a more mid-range machine.
